Born José Gabriel Condorcanqui, Túpac Amaru II took the name of his Inca ancestor who had been executed by Spanish conquerors. In 1780 he led one of the largest Indigenous uprisings against Spanish colonial rule in Peru.

He called for an end to forced labor, brutal taxation, and the violence inflicted on Indigenous communities. Tens of thousands joined him, carrying the hope of freedom into battle.

The rebellion was eventually crushed. Túpac Amaru II was captured and executed in a public display meant to break the spirit of his people. Instead, his name became a rallying cry.

This shirt honors him as a symbol of Indigenous resistance and survival. A reminder that empires fall, but the demand for justice endures.
