Comandanta Ramona
1959 – 2006
Comandanta Ramona didn’t speak often, but when she did, people listened.
As a leading officer in the Zapatista Army of National Liberation, she helped launch the 1994 uprising that challenged the Mexican government’s treatment of Indigenous communities. She was a strategist, a negotiator, and a voice for women who had long been ignored, both outside and within her own movement.
Ramona co-authored the Zapatista Women's Revolutionary Law, calling for dignity, equality, and freedom from violence. She walked into rooms where no woman had been invited before, and made space for thousands to follow.
This shirt honors her resistance.
Not for how loud she was, but for how clearly she spoke.
A reminder that true revolution can begin in silence,
and grow through courage, strategy, and conviction.
