John Brown (1800–1859)
John Brown was an abolitionist who believed slavery could only be ended through direct action. In 1859, he led the raid on Harpers Ferry, an attempt to spark a slave uprising. Captured and executed, he became both feared and revered.
This design from the Voices of Resistance collection pays tribute to his uncompromising fight for freedom, and to the idea that rebellion can be a moral duty.
