Joe Slovo (1926–1995) was a South African anti-apartheid leader, a founder of the armed wing of the ANC, and a committed communist. He believed that racism had to be dismantled before any vision of South Africa could be realized.
The words on this design by Alexander Hayes come from Slovo himself: “No matter what vision one has of South Africa, the first thing that must be done is to destroy racism.”
