Chris Hani (1942–1993) was a South African freedom fighter, commander of the armed wing of the ANC, and a leading voice against apartheid.
He believed that liberation could not be negotiated while injustice was still law. His assassination in 1993, just as South Africa was moving toward democracy, nearly set the country on fire.
This design by Alexander Hayes shows Hani in shadow before the red flag of resistance.
A figure both present and absent. Alive in memory, yet stolen by violence.
This shirt is a tribute to the unfinished struggle he carried, and to the belief that freedom cannot be delayed.
